The Buddy is built on a stable four-wheel chassis for growing riders who are ready for a larger and more advanced pedal kart. Its front swing axle helps the wheels maintain contact with the ground over minor surface variations, supporting a comfortable and balanced ride.
BERG’s BFR system combines braking, freewheeling, and reverse in one pedal-operated drivetrain. Riders can coast without the pedals continuing to turn, brake by pedaling backward, and reverse after coming to a stop.
Air-filled pneumatic tires provide additional cushioning and lower rolling resistance for a smoother ride. The seat adjusts to three positions, helping the Buddy accommodate children throughout the recommended rider range.
The Buddy is a strong next step for children who have outgrown a smaller introductory ride-on or are ready for the added control of BERG’s BFR drivetrain. Rider height is the most useful measurement when confirming fit, especially for children who are taller or shorter than average for their age.
The freewheel system allows the kart to continue rolling while the pedals remain still, making the Buddy feel more natural as riders gain speed. Children should become comfortable with its backpedal braking system before riding on sloped surfaces.
Consider where the child falls within the recommended height range. A smaller rider may enjoy several years of seat adjustment, while a child already approaching the upper limit may receive greater long-term use from the next appropriate BERG size.
BERG offers four current pedal-kart families sized for different stages of growth. Start with the rider’s height and ability to reach the pedals comfortably, then consider how much room for growth the family wants.
Buzzy
The Buzzy is BERG’s smallest pedal-kart family and is designed for the youngest riders. Its compact four-wheel design makes it a good introduction to pedaling and steering before moving into a larger kart.
Buddy
The Buddy is the next step up for growing riders who need more room than the Buzzy provides. It offers an adjustable seating position and a larger riding platform while remaining appropriately sized for younger children.
Rally
The Rally is designed for older and taller children who have outgrown the Buddy but are not yet ready for the full-size XL platform. It provides additional rider space and room for continued growth.
XL
The XL is BERG’s full-size pedal-kart platform for riders age 6 and older, including larger children, teens, and adults. It is the best BERG option when several family members will share one kart or when the customer wants the greatest amount of growing room.
The maximum rider weight for current XL models is 220 pounds.
Choose by Height and Fit
Age ranges are helpful, but height and proper pedal reach provide better fit guidance. The rider should be able to sit comfortably, reach the pedals throughout their full rotation, and steer without leaning or stretching.
Review the exact height range, weight capacity, and other specifications on the individual product page before ordering.
Allowing Room to Grow
A larger kart may provide more years of use, but buying too large can make pedaling and steering difficult. Choose the family that fits the rider properly now while still allowing reasonable adjustment as the rider grows.
Where It Will Be Ridden
Use the pedal kart on an appropriate riding surface away from traffic, steep slopes, hazardous obstacles, and unsafe areas. Tire style and riding characteristics may vary by family and model.
Review the individual product details to make sure the kart is appropriate for the intended riding area.
Accessories
Compatible accessories may be available for select BERG pedal-kart models. Accessories are sold separately unless the individual product listing specifically states that one is included.
Accessory compatibility varies by pedal-kart family and model. Always verify compatibility before ordering.

Q: What does BFR mean?
A: BFR stands for Brake, Freewheel, and Reverse. It allows the rider to coast with the pedals still, brake by pedaling backward, and reverse after stopping.
Q: Do the pedals keep turning while the Buddy is coasting?
A: No. The BFR freewheel system allows the kart to continue rolling without forcing the pedals to turn.
Q: How does the rider brake?
A: The rider brakes by pedaling backward. The Buddy does not use a separate hand-operated brake.
Q: Can the Buddy travel backward?
A: Yes. After stopping, the rider can pedal backward to reverse.
Q: Can the tires go flat?
A: Yes. The Buddy uses air-filled pneumatic tires, which provide a smoother ride but require occasional air-pressure checks and can be punctured.
Q: Is the seat adjustable?
A: Yes. The seat adjusts to three positions to accommodate riders within the recommended height range.
Q: What size rider is the BERG Buddy designed for?
A: BERG recommends the Buddy for children ages 3–8 who measure approximately 39–52 inches tall and weigh no more than 110 pounds. Rider height should be considered along with age when confirming fit.
Q: How is the Buddy different from the Buzzy?
A: The Buddy is larger and uses pneumatic tires and BERG’s BFR drivetrain. The Buzzy is a smaller introductory model with solid EVA tires and Direct Drive.
